The importance of grip

Grip is a fundamental aspect of golfing technique. However, acquiring the correct grip habit is a counterintuitive exercise. Initially the club feels most comfortable in the palm, and this produces an unstable grip, which can be compensated by gripping tighter and losing control of the swing, or it manifests in unreliable club face angle when the ball is addressed, leading to inconsistency overall.

You can tell when a palm grip is causing swing problems from the wear in the glove over time.

Our golf grip training aid reinforces good grip habits, and helps golfers achieve consistency, distance, and precision.

Helping to train a finger grip

Gripping the club where the fingers meet the hands gives a more secure and consistent grip, requiring less effort to hold the clubhead still on the downswing, resulting in greater distance and accuracy. The Get a Grip golf training glove helps users grip with the fingers and develop good swing habits overall.

How my work as a golf coach led to the Get a Grip training aid

One of the biggest mistakes I see on a daily basis and the most fundamental part of a golf swing is the grip. With my experience this is something that almost everyone gets wrong without knowing it's not correct, and this is endemic at all levels of the game.

Hold

If you do not hold the club in the right portion of your hand, it can have devasting effects on your performance. Subject to you having a very strong technique and moving the right parts of the body at the right time, you will lose an awful lot of power and the ball will generally veer off to the right. Our golf grip training aid prevents users holding the club in the palm, and gives a guideline for the ideal grip line.

Clubface

Above all, the clubface is the number one dictator of the direction of the golf ball and what directly influences that is your grip.

Placement

Another hugely important factor with holding the club in the correct place is without this you also cannot get enough wrist-set. Even after ensuring my clients are holding the club correctly, I notice daily great difficulty in retaining this key position of the hand and even after drawing on the glove, still an inability to keep the grip of the golf club where it should be. This is how Jan (my client) and I came to start our journey together

The results of poor grip

Above are examples of what happens to so many golfers, as a result of the club slipping up into the palm of the hand and not under the bar on the glove. This wears a hole in the glove very early on from purchase. For these golfers our golf grip training aid will last longer than any standard glove sold on the market, as well as securing the grip, giving you the best chance of playing and enjoying your best golf possible.

Orthopaedic golfers

Anyone with joint issues or arthritis will benefit immensely from feeling a more secure and confident hold on the golf club. By not having to grip the golf club too hard, it alleviates the strain on the hand, itself. Our golf grip training aid is ideal for players who finds themselves with weaker joints in their hand.

How the glove encourages a good grip

For our product to work to its full potential there are a few things that are very important to bear in mind.

  • Ensure the clubhead is 90 degrees in relation to the target. Just because you are holding the club in the correct place, this will not govern the clubface itself being in the correct position before you start your golf swing.
  • When gripping the club, you must have all your glove hand on the golf club. Leave at least 1cm from the end of the club for a normal set-up.
  • Both thumbs should be past your index fingers when gripping the club, but in a relaxed manner, as this creates more stability in the swing.
  • Placement of your glove hand is very important. The badge of your glove must point at the horizon somewhere between the target and the sky to give you the best chance of getting the clubface back to a square position, 90 degrees in relation to the target.
  • There is a V-indicator put on the golf glove. You must make sure this V on your glove is pointing up to your trail shoulder. (for a right-handed golfer, the lead shoulder is your left shoulder (the shoulder that's closer to the target) trail shoulder obviously the right shoulder. One furthest from the target.
  • Lastly, very important as this goes unnoticed a lot of the time. Ensure the grips themselves are the correct size for your hands for added stability and comfort.

Quality in every swing

The golf training glove itself is made from a leather-synthetic cross. It's a soft material and this ensures feel and quality for the individual using the training aid are absolutely optimal. We have tested a multitude of different materials before arriving at the ideal combination. There is no compromise on the comfort and efficiency of the product.
